PVINZ has started offering an online programme for parents who are new to the blind and disability sector. During 2024 we ran this programme in person during the conference workshops. Our programme is useful for parents navigating an avalanche of new acronyms, assorted agencies, and getting a handle on what it all means.
Useful resources for parents include the Vision Book. This was published in 2005 but much of the material still relevant. You can download this from our website here: https://pvi.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/The-Vision-Booklet-min.pdf
Other useful resources about navigating a needs assessment can be found on the Parent to Parent website. Thier NASC resource is especially useful:
This provides an overview of the needs assessment (NASC) process with guidance on preparing for the needs assessment, the meeting and follow-up, and reviews/reassessments. Download here: https://parent2parent.org.nz/resource-hub/3556/
