PVI Submission on the Public Service Amendment Bill

📢 Parents of Vision Impaired (PVI) has made a submission on the Public Service Amendment Bill. While we support efforts to improve efficiency and accountability, we are deeply concerned that the Bill weakens commitments to equity, inclusion, and participation.

⚠️ Removing explicit references to diversity and inclusion risks sidelining disabled people and families.

⚠️ A stronger focus on “efficiency” could undermine specialist supports that our children and whānau rely on.

⚠️ Delegating more responsibility to contractors may reduce accountability for accessibility and disability rights.

We’ve called on Parliament to:
✅ Restore commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
✅ Mandate accessible digital services.
✅ Embed inclusive emergency planning.
✅ Ensure disabled people and families are consulted in service design.

Public services should work for all New Zealanders — including blind, low vision, and vision-impaired children and their whānau.
